The European Commission has selected FUTURES as a beneficiary of the new Creative Europe Programme to receive a grant of 2.1 million euros. With this support, the European contemporary photography platform is able to scale its possibilities to boost the careers of emerging artists in contemporary photography and further impact the art world.

A project of high relevance

The European Commission recognizes the value of the FUTURES, leading to its decision to continue supporting it as the only photography platform for the next three years. Taken from the summary of their evaluation report: “Overall, this is a project of high relevance and potential as it aims to promote and boost a traditionally under-represented and less visible medium. Moreover, it proposes and resources active involvement of artists in the platform while fostering the professionalisation of their careers.”

“We are honoured that FUTURES has qualified again for support from the Creative Europe Programme of the European Commission. With this decision, we are encouraged to expand our activities and grow the platform in the coming years.”
– Menno Liauw, Founder and Director of Futures Photography.

“In the current social and political context, it is even more necessary to develop and design projects that support artists and foster genuine and inclusive cultural development. In this sense, it is crucial to start from an artist-based perspective to build dynamics that can have a long-term impact.” – Salvatore Vitale, Artisic Director of Futures Photography.

In the next three years FUTURES will further expand its activities in Europe, including travelling exhibitions, symposia and festivals in more than ten different European countries. The matchmaking between artists and experts will be further optimised and several collaborations will be initiated, including with Magnum Photography.
