FUTURES MEET UP: REFLECTIONS ON PHOTOGRAPHY AND ENERGY
FUTURES artists and the FUTURES community engaged in a two-day gathering, immersing themselves in reflections, discussions, and explorations of the relationship between photography and energy during times of transformation.
On November 13 and 14, FUTURES and FOMU organized a FUTURES Meet-up in Antwerp. FUTURES Photography and FOMU invited attendees to a two-day program of lectures, panel discussions, and activities related to photography. During the FUTURES Meet-up, participants met FUTURES talents, international curators (including Luce Lebart, Damarice Amao, and Amanda Maddox), and other artists.
One of the highlights of the event was the launch of FUTURES' annual publication "Trigger #5: Energy", curated by FUTURES members: FOMU, Fotodok, PhotoIreland, and Capa Center; it was designed as a special edition of Trigger, FOMU, and FW:BOOKS' annual magazine.
Rethink, restructure, reflect was the motto of the FUTURES Meet Up in Antwerp. This theme aimed to provoke thought about the roles of artists, curators, and facilitators in the creative process and to reconsider photography's position as an artistic medium.
The Meet Up was all about the mutual exchange of information and inspiration between participants. The goal was to facilitate a lively and equal/non-hierarchical exchange between photographers and curators. We aimed to lower the high barriers between curator, director, expert, and artist and to offer them an opportunity to make connections in an informal way.
