Open to all FUTURES artists nominated since 2018, each residency will offer the participants the opportunity to push the boundaries of their practice while engaging with critical contemporary issues. The program aims to create an environment for experimentation, exploration and production, with a particular focus on the artistic process and research.
During the residency, the participants will have access to a network of creatives and experts and modern facilities to support the applied or research projects they develop during their stay. Artists will have the opportunity to develop their perspective around the evolving relationship between natural and human-made domains.

Kim Boske, coordinator of the Residency Program at the FUTURES Foundation, explains that:
«this year, the FUTURES Residency Program focuses on the dynamic and often complex relationship between nature, the environment, and technology. These themes are not only central to the contemporary moment but also raise broader philosophical and existential questions about our place in the world. As the boundaries between the natural world, human-made environments, and technological innovation blur, artists are uniquely equipped to explore the tensions, possibilities, and unknowns that emerge from these intersections.
The environment—both natural and human-made—is undergoing profound changes, influenced by technology and human actions in ways that are often intertwined and difficult to separate. The residency invites artists to engage with these shifts, exploring how the relationship between nature, technology, and the spaces we inhabit is constantly evolving. This exploration offers a platform to reflect on the broader implications of these changes and the ways in which they challenge our understanding of sustainability, responsibility, and the future.
Rather than providing answers, the residency offers space for critical reflection and creative exploration. We aim to illuminate the artistic process itself, encouraging artists to bring attention to the questions they raise, the methodologies they explore, and the new perspectives they offer on the entanglement of these fundamental elements. In this way, the residency invites a deeper engagement with how art can illuminate the complexities of our relationship with the world, without necessarily offering fixed conclusions, but instead creating openings for new ways of seeing and understanding».

We are thrilled to start this new chapter together with the Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Center and the ISSP Gallery! Selected participants will have the opportunity to explore the vibrant cities of Budapest and Riga, while developing their artistic practice supported by a network of experts and the community of FUTURES.
In Riga, the selected resident will be housed at the ISSP Riga Residency apartment right in the city centre. The accommodation offers comfortable living and working conditions - a separate bedroom with a working space, spacious shared living room and a fully equipped kitchen.
The Art Quarter in Budapest will host the artist selected for the Capa Center’s Residency program. The participant will enjoy a private room within a communal apartment and shared studio space. Capa Center provides varied services to integrate the resident into the local art scene and contribute in establishing professional connections.
Three artists will be invited to come to Amsterdam, in three different periods of time, where they will be staying at the FUTURES Hub, headquarters for all FUTURES activities and a dynamic cultural focal point for the city. Situated in a repurposed industrial site, the space combines work and living areas with access to an adjacent atrium for larger installations, performances, and presentations.
The FUTURES Residency Program is supported by Creative Europe.
