Bettina Freimann

Bettina Freimann is an independent curator and sinologist specializing in contemporary art, including time-based media, video art, installation, photography, and performance. From 2016 to 2021, she co-curated the Âme Nue art space in Hamburg, organizing exhibitions with local and international artists. Highlights include Electromagnetic Brainology by Lu Yang and the online show The Peach Spring Beyond this World, featuring works by aaajiao and Ye Funa. Since 2021, Bettina has worked as a freelance curator, leading projects such as the group exhibition Clear River, Calm Sea at Hauptkirche St. Katharinen during CHINA TIME 2022, showcasing artists like Li Binyuan, Xin Liu, Tong Wenmin, Ma Haijiao, Yao Qingmei, and Yi Dai. She also curated solo exhibitions for Claudius Schulze (Traces of Fragility) and Parisa Azadi (Ordinary Grief) as part of the 8th Triennial of Photography Hamburg. Other projects include ClimateArtFest 2022 and the co-curated exhibition IN OUR HANDS for Photofestiwal Lodz 2023. Since October 2023, Bettina is the project director of the 9th Triennial of Photography Hamburg 2026.
