The Republic of Moldova is located between Romania and the Ukraine, on a fine line between Russia and Europe both geographically and metaphorically speaking. It's a country that suffers from massive emigration, poverty and corruption. The children are asking – ‘Where are our parents?’. The elderly are asking – ‘where are our children?’ Moldova is a home to many that is predominantly characterised by the absence of others and is strongly reminiscent of loneliness and solitude. That shows in both the young children who don’t grow up in their parents’ homes as well as the elderly who suffer from a general shortage of caregiving and state support. Why would a country that is not at war lose its every fifth citizen in 10 years?
